Bengaluru: Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) officer K. Mathai, on Thursday, filed a police complaint against the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP’s) accounts department for allegedly misappropriating his General Provident Fund (GPF), which he claims amounted to Rs. 3.1 lakh including interest.
In his complaint to the Halasuru Gate Police, Mathai said that the BBMP official concerned used to deduct Rs. 15,000 from his salary towards GPF every month for two years between 2014 and 2016 while he was serving as Assistant Commissioner. When he later checked with the department of provident fund, he was informed that no deposits had been made into his account.
Alleging that the BBMP’s accounts department refused to respond to his queries, Mathai asked the police to probe the matter and take penal action against the official concerned for misusing funds.
Based on his complaint, the police have taken up a case under Section 406 of IPC against the Chief Accounts Officer at BBMP, and are verifying the documents provided by Mathai to substantiate his claim.
BBMP Chief Accounts Officer Mahadev said the transactions were done before his tenure.
