Bengaluru: Students of Greenwood High International celebrated the spirit of Christmas by spending quality time with the children of a charitable organization called ‘Swanthana’.
The students not only collected essentials like groceries, diapers, blankets, clothes, medicines etc, for the children but also brought the festivities right into the organization as they sang carols for them, played with them and also fed them.
Started in September 2006, Swanthana houses 47 mentally and physically challenged female children between the ages of 9 months to 15 years. The organization offers care and protection to orphans, abandoned and destitute female children, many of whom are bedridden. It also provides magnetic therapy, physio therapy, rehabilitation and education to the specially-abled children and helps them overcome their disabilities, preparing them for the world.
Greenwood High International, following its tradition of spreading the Christmas cheer, helped the children at Swanthana rejoice by giving them a little of their time. Right from the distributing essential items to singing and playing with them, the students managed to bring a smile to their faces.
Niru Agarwal, Trustee, Greenwood High International School, said, “Christmas is a season of love and joy and it is best when celebrated together. In keeping with this our students and staff put in their efforts to bring some togetherness to the specially abled children at Swanthana. These children are fighting a battle each day, and a little contribution from our students in the form of time and joy can mean the world to them. This is how we were able to give back to the community. We have always encouraged such community service initiatives in our students as the very act of sharing and finding joy in giving to the needy build character and help the students grow.”
