Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has directed the Vidhana Soudha police to hand over Rs. 1.97 crores to the IT Department. The cash was seized from a car belonging to Sidhartha, a high court advocate who was trying to ferry the unaccounted cash into the Vidhana Soudha premises.

The Vidhana Soudha police had found the huge stash of money in the car during a routine security check on October 16, 2016. A complaint was registered thereafter and investigations were taken up.

The police, it is gathered had declined a request from the IT department to hand over the money to them to find out the source of this huge cash. Following this the IT department had moved the high court which has now directed the police to hand over the money to IT department after executing an indemnity bond.

It can be recalled that the state Congress leaders were against handing over this case to the IT department stating that cash seized by the police belonged to few influential BJP leaders who may use the party central leadership to weaken the case.
