Bengaluru: A Manager of HDFC life has been nabbed from Uttar Pradesh on charges of cheating hundreds of people off Rs 40 cr,  including Housing Minister M H Ambarish’s kin.

The Manager identified as Vishalakshi was heading BTM Layout Branch in the city.

A police team from the City tracked and arrested her from an Ashram in Etawah on Wednesday night. She was brought to the City on Thursday morning.

The police said Vishalakshi used to befriend people from business sectors, film industry as well as top government officials and collect money from them as premium towards life insurance policies, but never deposited the money with the company. While the police suspect that there are many more who were cheated by the lady, the police are yet to get complaints.

Vishalakshi, a native of Sirsi in Uttara Kannada district, has a degree from Kuvempu University, Shivamogga.

The police had formed two teams to tackle the case. The cops traced her mobile phone logs to Etawah. After medical examination and other formalities she was produced before a local court which remanded her in police custody for five days.

She had also cheated Renuka Devi, sister of actor Sumalatha, wife of Housing Minister M H Ambarish.
