Bengaluru: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Karnataka coalition government’s farmer loan waiver scheme as a ‘cruel joke’ on farmers, Chief Minister of Karnataka HD Kumaraswamy has retorted saying that the PM’s statement was ‘unfortunate and incorrect’.
While the PM had said that only 800 farmers have been benefited so far by the scheme, the CM has said that the state farm loan waiver scheme is an open book and all details with regard to the same are out on public domain.
The Karnataka government claims that about 60,000 farmers had been paid Rs 350 crore directly into their bank accounts. Around one lakh farmers would be paid Rs 400 crore through electronic transfer by next week.
Kumaraswamy, who has said that other states have been impressed by the model adopted by Karnataka, added that the PM has insulted the efforts of the state for political mileage.
