Bengaluru: According to sources, Head-on-generator (HOG) technology has been used to make 40 South Western Railways (SWR) trains more environmental-friendly.
Fuel usage and costs can also be reduced due to this new technology.
HOG technology was first used on trains by Indian Railways, and SWR implemented it in November 2019. As of January 2022, 40 trains on the SWR network are equipped with technology that reduces consumption as compared to the trains’ traditional fuel, High-Speed Diesel (HSD). The railways recorded a savings of Rs. 6.93 crore in the month of December alone. In 2021, the total savings were Rs. 70.12 crore.
Twenty KSR Bengaluru trains and 18 Yeswanthpur trains are among the trains that utilise the technology. In December, four Yeswanthpur trains going to Lucknow and Mangaluru had been converted.
