Bengaluru: Parents allegedly killed their 16-year-old daughter for having an affair with a painter at K.G. Hosahalli in Ramanagaram district on Saturday. Police suspected that this is a case of honour killing by the parents who were annoyed after their daughter had eloped with her friend Manjunath on September 6.
Accused Govindaraju and his wife Jayalakshmamma were arrested by the police. The body of the victim has been recovered by the police.
Police sources said that the victim was staying for some months at her relative’s residence at Sunkadakatte in Bengaluru. Manjunath, a painter, was her neighbour. However, her relatives sent her back to K.G. Hosahalli on learning about their affair. Manjunath visited Ramanagaram on September 6, met the girl near Sri Revana Siddeshwara Hills and took her to Hubballi.
The parents had filed a complaint with the police alleging that the painter had kidnapped their daughter. As per their complaint, the police went in search of the couple, traced them in Hubballi, arrested Manjunath and brought them back to Ramanagaram.
“We had decided to send the girl to Government Home for Girls, as she was a minor. However, the accused took her home after completing certain procedures such as giving a protection bond. But, later they killed her,” a police officer said.
The accused on Sunday approached the police saying that their daughter had committed suicide but after questioning they confessed to killing their daughter.
