Bengaluru: Assembly Opposition Leader Siddaramaiah claimed on Monday March 28 that the BJP’s divisive politics of polarising Hindus on communal lines will not succeed in Karnataka because the people are mature enough to see through the saffron party’s schemes.

He further said that Karnataka is not Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Uttarakhand or Punjab. “How long will you indulge in divisive politics? Politics of religion? People will never forgive you,” he said.

He was addressing a Bengaluru function when Former Minister M. B. Patil was sworn in as the Chairman of the KPCC Campaign Committee.

“There is a conflict between Manuvaada and Manushyatva here (humanity). Congress does not wish to engage in politics based on caste or religion. We are committed to humanity “he said.

In response to rumours of early elections in Karnataka, Siddaramaiah termed the BJP as “power-hungry” and stated that the government will not allow for early elections. “Aren’t we Hindus? Didn’t we read the Ramayana and Mahabharata? It was during the tenure of our PM Rajiv Gandhi that the great epics were telecast on TV. The message of struggle against evil forces is essential,” said D. K. Shivakumar.

He said that Congress abides by the Constitution and treats it in the same way as religious epics are treated. “The BJP is playing bad politics on sensitive issues, while we are for positive politics,” Patil remarked.

He also said Congress will return to power on its own by winning at least 140 seats in the 2023 Assembly polls. “The party leaders on the dais urged its members not to be disheartened by the BJP’s recent victories in four states, saying that Karnataka is a different ball game,” said Patil.

Leader of Opposition B. K. Hariprasad criticised the RSS and the Sangh Parivar, claiming that they had not contributed to the freedom struggle.
