Bengaluru: Former prime minister and Janatal Dal (Secular) supremo H D Deve Gowda said on Sunday that he had faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi in finding a solution to the Cauvery water dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Speaking with media persons after garlanding Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shatri portraits, Deve Gowda said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spoken to him over the phone in the morning and assured to find a solution to the Cauvery issue. “I have faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP has an absolute majority in the Lok Sabha. Modi does not need to succumb to pressure by any political party. Let him take a decision on the Cauvery issue. Let us wait and see,” Deve Gowda said.
He also said that he had faith on the legislature, especially on three political parties – Congress, BJP and JD(S) – that are expected to take a decision on the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu during the special legislature session scheduled for Monday. “Let us see what decision the three major political parties in Karnataka would take on Monday,’” he said.
