Bengaluru: Former chief minister Siddaramaiah, on Saturday, December 21, reacted to Mangaluru Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha’s notice, barring him from entering Mangaluru.

Speaking to the media in Bengaluru city, Siddaramaiah said,” If the BJP ministers can be allowed to enter Mangaluru, why can’t the Leader of the Opposition be allowed? The BJP is trying to hide their weakness.”

“As per the notice, I am not supposed to travel to Mangaluru by train, bus or car,” he added.

Commenting on the violence that broke out in Mangaluru on Thursday, and the subsequent curfew, he balmed the BJP-led state government for the two deaths that occurred in Mangaluru during police firing.

Questioning the need to open fire on the protesters, he said, “The government has killed two innocent citizens. The state government has ordered ‘goli bar’ (firing) on the protesters. This is the murder of democracy. It is a state of undeclared emergency. We will not allow the BJP to function as and how they please. Every party should abide by the Constitution.”

Siddaramaiah then dared the BJP to declare a state of emergency and put him in jail.

It can be recalled that Siddaramaiah was planning to visit Mangaluru city on Sunday, but the Mangaluru compol issued a notice to him, barring him from entering the city till the curfew is lifted. He cited the deterioration of the law and order situation as the reason for barring entry to the former chief minister.

This was also brought to Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa’s notice. BSY said that he would look into the issue during his visit to the city.

Siddaramaiah will now be visiting the city on December 23.
