Bengaluru: On Saturday November 20, heavy rains continued to lash various parts of Karnataka, triggered by a low-pressure area over the Arabian Sea and a major depression in the Bay of Bengal. The incessant rains have caused deaths, disruption, relocation, and major property damage.

With further rain expected in the next three to four days, the District Administrations of Chikkaballapura, Ramanagara, Belagavi, Vijayanagara, and Davanagere have sounded alert to people in villages and towns along river banks.

According to the sources, many people and cattle heads have already been relocated to safer areas in the Chikkaballapura District’s Uttara Pinakini River basin. Families living on the banks of Ramanagara’s flooding Arkavathy River have been relocated to Ambedkar Bhavan’s relief centre. The outflows from the District’s three reservoirs, Manchanabele, Harobele, and Kanva have all increased.

As per the reports, lakes and tanks have been breached in Kolar and Chikkaballapura. Several roads, including the BB Road in Chikkaballapura, have been closed due to overflowing rivers, rivulets, and stormwater drains. The continuous rain has killed over 4,000 poultry chicken and many cattle heads. Hundreds of acres of horticulture crops are rotting due to the weather.

For the first time in two decades, Vani Vilas Sagar in Hiriyur Taluk, Chitradurga District, has surpassed the 120- foot level. In the Districts of Davangere and Shivamogga, the standing and ready-to-harvest paddy crop is rotting.

The Varada River and other rivulets in Haveri District have flooded acres of paddy and other crops. The Tungabhadra reservoir has been full due to heavy rains. Hubballi-Dharawada, Belagavi, Gadaga, Bagalkot, Koppala, Raichur, and Ballary Districts too received heavy rain.
