Bengaluru: The city police busted an international internet call racket here on Thursday and have launched a manhunt to nab the two accused who were running the business in Bengaluru.

Police sources said that two persons have been accused of cheating the government of Rs 2.73 crore by converting international internet calls to local calls.

“We received a tip off from the Telecom Enforcement Resource and Monitoring Cell (Term Cell) about the illegal activity. A team was formed and we raided the company Net Magic IT Solutions in Electronics City. A modem, router and a server have been seized. The accused have been identified as Vijay Mohan Agarwal, owner of Varun Enterprises in Ghaziabad and Amith Kumar Jain, owner of Shri Business Solutions in Delhi”, said one of the senior police officials.

It is learnt that the duo that were running the business used to convert the rates of international internet calls, which is made through web service, into local call rates, which is cheaper. This is illegal as the calls made through this service cannot be traced.

Police during investigation came to know that, the accused Agarwal had purchased equipments under different company names. “But this can be ascertained only after Agarwal is arrested”, added the official.

“The illegal business started on July 31 and has incurred a loss of Rs 2.73 crore to the government”, said the police official.

Though the police busted the racket, they are yet to nab the accused.
