IT seizure: State govt suspends 2 corrupt officials

Bengaluru: The state government suspended two corrupt officials after huge amounts of cash, cars, valuables and documents were seized from their residences and offices by the Income Tax (IT) department sleuths in Bengaluru on December 1.

The announcement was made in the State Legislative Council by the Home Minister G Parameshwara after BJP members demanded action against the tainted officials during the ongoing winter session in Belagavi.

It may be recalled that IT department officials had raided the residence of S C Jayachandra, Chief Planning Officer of State Highway Development Project, PWD department on December 1 and T N Chikkarayappa, Managing Director of Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd., earlier. It is gathered that the former is related to State PWD Minister H C Mahadevappa who is also the Mysuru district in-charge minister and the latter, a close aid of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

IT sleuths had raided the residences and offices of both top officials in the government on November1. The raids were conducted at 10 different locations in the state capital including Banaswadi, Dollars Colony and Chandra Layout and huge amounts of cash, car, gold and documents recovered. The residences of contractors Ram lingam and Ibrahim Sharif alleged to have close links with S C Jayachandra, were also raided. It is alleged that S C Jayachandra had swindled crores of rupees by obtaining fake documents from both contractors.

During the raids Rs 6 Crore cash was seized out of which Rs 4.7 Crore was in fresh currency of Rs 2000 denomination. The rest was in spiked Rs 500 and Rs 100 denomination currency.

Apart from cash, IT sleuths had also seized 7 kg gold biscuits, 7 kg gold ornaments, a Lamborghini costing Rs 20 Crore along with many other high-end cars. Some documents related to property amassed illegally also were seized during the raids.
