Bengaluru: Former Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy has stated that his party JD (S) will not support the anti-conversion bill that the government plans to introduce in the Karnataka Assembly.
“This Bill is clearly opposed by our party, and all of our legislators attending the session are vehemently opposing it,” Kumaraswamy said.
Speaking to the mediapersons in New Delhi he said that the Bill is unnecessary in the State.
The leader of the opposition in the Karnataka Assembly and Congress leader Siddaramaiah has claimed that the anti-conversion law is being introduced to target a specific religion.
Speaking to mediapersons Siddharamaih said that there is already a law in to stop forceful conversion. “Let the government to take action if there is any forced conversion. This bill is being introduced in order to target a specific religion. Congress will oppose it,” he said.
However, Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra has said that no one should live in fear due to the bill.
The Karnataka Assembly’s 10-day Winter Session began on December 13 and will end on December 24 at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi.
