Bengaluru: Justice K. N. Phaneendra has been appointed the Upa Lokayukta of the State. The appointment has been made after nearly two years of the post remaining vacant.
Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot issued a notification to this effect after Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai recommended his name for the post. Justice Phaneendra might take oath the next week. Bommai before recommending the name had consulted experts including the State High Court Chief Justice among others.
Before retiring as a High Court judge in May 2020 he rose to becoming a permanent judge on March 4, 2016. Justice N. Ananda last served as Upa Lokayukta whose tenure had ended in December 2020.
