Bengaluru: Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) activists blackened several flex boards on Mysuru Road that welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Hindi. According to sources, the flex boards showed they were put up by the Horticulture Minister and Rajarajeshwarinagar (RR) MLA Munirathna’s supporters.
Police from R.R. Nagar rushed to the scene and arrested the group. The agitation was led by Dharmaraj Gowda, President of the KRV Youth Wing said, “A Karnataka Minister putting up flex boards completely in Hindi, without a word of Kannada to welcome the Prime Minister. We shall not tolerate our representatives’ slavery to Hindi or any imposition of Hindi. The police refused to let us blacken all of the flex boards that had been erected on Mysuru Road. However, a group of our activists has gone up to Mysuru in a convoy of bikes and will blacken all flex boards in Hindi.”
Over 500 people from pro-Kannada organisations went on RR Nagar, Vijayanagar, and Mysuru Road to remove the banners.
Following the incident, heavy police security was deployed on Mysuru Road, and security was increased at places where Prime Minister Modi’s events are scheduled.
