Bengaluru: According to a notification from the Karnataka State Police Department, applicants for the Scene of Crime Office (SoCO) must write the first language SSLC Kannada language paper to qualify for the post.
Following concerns from aspirants over the SoCO post’s eligibility criteria, the decision was made. The candidates complained that there was no language criterion that allowed people from Karnataka to apply for the post.
The applicants’ problems are compounded by the fact that the post requires a forensic degree or diploma. Since none of the colleges in Karnataka provide these courses, many people are disqualified for the post.
However, the department has made it clear that completing the Kannada Language examination at the first language level during the SSLC examinations which will be held on April 4 is a prerequisite for applying for the post. The applicant will only be regarded qualified after that.
The candidates had previously expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of a forensic degree or diploma programme in Karnataka government schools. They also urged the government to implement such a programme.
