Bengaluru: The State Government is likely to make a final decision on milk prices after two days, as the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has sought time to fix the milk and curd price hike. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has urged KMF not to raise the price by Rs. 3, but also not to cause harm to either farmers or consumers. He said that KMF had sought two days.
Bommai said that during a meeting with KMF representatives, he had asked them for details, including the cost of milk and curd in other states. “I asked about the cost of production for KMF and the reason behind the price hike. I wanted to know what steps they had done to reduce and stop leakage of milk,” he added.
According to sources, he reportedly informed the officials that milk price keeps changing from time to time, but some private players will gain. When asked about why the government was interfering with KMF’s choice, he said, “We are giving them a subsidy. For our Ksheera Bhagya scheme, we also use milk. In addition, the government has an obligation to consider both farmers and consumers.”
