Bengaluru: According to sources, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (the BMTC), in partnership with the Labour Department, has agreed to give free monthly bus passes starting in January next year under the programme ‘Vanitha Sangathi.’
The Karnataka government will issue free bus passes to around 2.5 lakh of women working in the City’s garment factories, in recognition of their contributions.
It further stated that women working in garment factories who wish to use the ‘Vanitha Sangathi’ monthly bus passes should make their request to the owners of the respective garment factories.
According to the statement, the factory management should compile a list of women employees seeking passes and submit it to the Karnataka Labour Board in Bengaluru. The Labour Board would review the applications and provide the BMTC with a list of qualified women employees.
However, owners of garment firms where women workers are employed will be responsible for 40 per cent of the pass amount. After confirming receipt of 40 per cent of the pass amount, the BMTC will issue the ‘Vanitha Sangathi’ monthly bus passes, according to the list received from the Karnataka Labour Board in Bengaluru.
The transport corporation informed that ‘Vanitha Sangathi’ pass holders can travel in all ordinary services of BMTC.
