Bengaluru: The State Government will increase testing and send all samples of the fresh COVID-19 cases to a lab for genome sequencing, said Health Minister Dr. K Sudhakar on Thursday December 22. His remarks were made in response to the detection of new Covid-19 variant BF.7 in the country, which is thought to be related to the rise in Covid cases.
Speaking to mediapersons, he said that the Health Ministry has asked to send samples of all the fresh positive cases for genome sequencing. We will do that immediately, he added.
“Tests will be held more often. In a few states, the new variant BF.7 has been found. We have to keep an eye on it because once it comes to India, there is a chance it will also come to Karnataka,” he added.
“People should use face masks in crowded places and get all three Covid vaccinations, but guidelines about the necessary measures have not yet been decided,” said Sudhakar.
