Bengaluru: The State Government has made the decision to investigate the sale of illegal protein powders used by gyms and others to build muscle.

The government will take action against anyone involved in the illegal sale of protein powders, said Law Minister J. C. Madhu Swamy on Tuesday September 20. A youth in his district passed away after using protein powder, according to BJP MLA Satish Reddy, who brought this issue during the zero hour.

“His liver and heart were damaged. The family spent over Rs. 50 lakh on his medical care. However, he passed away. There is a need to check the illegal sale of protein powders, he said, adding that many young people are falling victim to it.

Speaker Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri suggested that the State Government should perform a fair scientific analysis before acting when Health Minister Dr. K. Sudhakar urged that the Food Safety Department launch a special investigation to identify the culprits.
