Karnataka may face another year of drought

Bengaluru: The latest rainfall report prepared by IMD, Bengaluru centre has sent ripples among the state administrative machinery as rainfall shortage is reported from all the major districts of the state considering the average weekly rain fall.

According to the report accessed by the Newskarnataka, between June 15 and 21,the state received 27 percent less rainfall as compared to average rainfall.

But what has made things worst is that South Canara district, which should have received good rainfall in this period has received 70 percent less rainfall against the average. Udupi and Uttara Kannada with 56 and 27 percent less rainfall respectively are the other affected districts.

“In total, sub-divisional rainfall is lesser by 46 percent,” informed an officer.

The water crisis is looming large over the Bengaluru city with Kodagu witnessing 71 percent less rainfall compared to average rainfall. “Since the start of June month alone, Kodagu district has witnessed 37 percent less rainfall against average rainfall for the month which is really a shocking news,” he added.

Chamarajnagar (-90%), Chikkaballapur (-37%), Chitradurga (-52%), Davanagere (-51%), Hassan (-71%), Madnya (-50%), Mysuru (-50%), Shivamogga (-45%), Tumakuru (-3%), Haveri (-86%) and Dharward (-31%) are the other worst affected districts.

Lucky districts:
As per the report, many of the districts of North Karnataka subdivision have received good rainfall in the same period.

Bagalkot (+102%), Belagavi (+13%), Bidar (+52%), Kalaburgi (+52%), Koppal (+36%), Raichur (+121%), Vijayapura (187%) and Yadgir (148%) have received good rain fall in this season.
