Bengaluru: As many as seven students ended their lives in the State within hours of the PUC II results. This has raised alarm among the educational stakeholders. What shocked the authorities is that out of the seven, four students are girls.

The incidents have been reported from Bilagi in Bagalakote District, Humanabad in Bidar District, Garaga in Vijayanagara District, Harthi in Gadag District, Mahadevapura in Mandya district, Basavanahalli in Kodagu, and Kumata in Uttara Kannada District.

“Among the seven suicide incidents, four are girl students. It is shocking,” said an official.

According to the authorities, fear is the major reason behind students taking an extreme step even though the government announced a supplementary examination in August. A Kodagu student ended her life even before the announcement of the results. After the result announcement, it was found that she cleared the examination with first class.
