Bengaluru:  School Education and Literacy Minister B. C. Nagesh said that the State Government is seeking a report on the nature of education provided at madrasas in the State.

The Minister attended a review meeting to discuss the formal education given to madrasa students.

He mentioned a rule that requires students to go to nearby schools to complete their official education in science and mathematics after receiving their religious education at madrasas.

“However, there is no exact information available about students receiving formal education,” he said.

His office released a statement in which he stated, “In this backdrop, keeping in mind the future of the students studying at madrasas, there is a need to know about the nature of education at madrasas.”

He said that pressure was rising from Karnataka and that a meeting was held to look at the education systems there. “Officials have been asked to visit madrasas to inspect whether the education being provided at aided, unaided, and private madrasas is in compliance with the Right to Education Act, and if not, what kind of education is being provided,” he said.

“A meeting with education experts and people running madrasas will be held after obtaining information about the situation on the ground. According to the Right to Education Act, the government is required to provide every child with formal education, and every attempt is being made to fulfil it. The government’s goal is for every child to receive a quality education,” he stressed.
