Bengaluru: The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has proposed a Rs. 3 per litre hike in milk prices, for which it will soon approach Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and seek his approval.

14 District Milk Unions has urged the KMF to raise the price of milk by Rs. 3 per litre, to make it Rs. 40 per litre, during its annual general body meeting in Bengaluru on Thursday January 13, claiming that the KMF’s ‘Nandini’ brand of milk is among the lowest in the country.

On Friday, KMF Chairman and MLA Balachandra Jarkiholi said that the unions are demanding a Rs. 3 per litre increase, which they want to pass on to farmers who are struggling.

Jarkiholi also informed that the KMF is planning a mega food park in Belagavi, citing the time it takes for sweets and other products created in Bengaluru to reach markets in Maharashtra and other states.

The Nandini Milk Products (NMP) plant would be constructed on a 50-acre plot of land with a Rs. 300 crore investment.

“From the Belagavi plant, we will be able to easily cover North Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, and other regions, which would also help us meet the increased demand for our products,” he said.
