Kolar: A cemetery land dispute between two groups escalated into a full-blown clash at Holerahalli in Vemagal Hobli here on July 18.
Tensions were brewing in the village over the complaints of encroachment filed by a group from the village to the revenue department. Another group denied these allegations. The revenue department officials were in the village to resolve the matter.
According to reports, at least 80 people were gathered to view the survey of the cemetery ground by the officials of the revenue department. A verbal argument broke out between two groups when one of them denied any encroachment on the cemetery land. Soon, the squabble escalated into a full-blown fistfight, injuring at least 50, including women.
The Vemagal Police who reached the spot resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd and restore normalcy. The injured were taken to the government hospital in Kolar for treatment. A case has been registered at the Vemagal Police Station.
