Bengaluru: On Sunday October 3, the State BJP named former Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa’s son B. Y. Vijayendra as its Party In-charge ahead of the upcoming Karnataka bypolls.
With the announcement of the bypolls for the Hangal and Sindgi Assembly constituencies on Friday October 8, BJP’s battle for the party ticket has become intense, with contestants going all out to woo the Party High Command.
According to the sources, C. M. Udasi’s son, Shivakumar Udasi, is a Member of Parliament, and Revathi, his wife, wants to follow in her father-in-law’s footsteps. Local Sangh Parivar leaders have allegedly endorsed her candidacy.
Notable candidates in the election include former MLA and MLC Shivaraj Sajjanar, BJP Haveri district Unit President Siddaraja Kalakoti, and District General Secretary and former Zilla Panchayat Member Krishna Iliger.
The Assembly seats in the Hanagal and Sindgi constituencies were vacated owing to the deaths of MLAs, hence by-elections will be held.
The seat in Sindgi was vacated following the death of Janata Dal (Secular) MLA M. C. Managuli, and the seat in Hanagal was vacated following the death of BJP MLA C. M. Udasi.
