Bengaluru: The permission to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi has only been granted for three days under certain conditions by the Karnataka government. A decision in this regard was made in a meeting held by Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj on Sunday September 5.

Experts have advised against celebration to ensure that there is no spike in Covid cases but there is pressure from within the party and several MLAs as well to allow the festival celebrations to go on.

Therefore, a technical committee’s report was used to make the decision to approve the celebration.

The celebration must meet criteria, including a simple installation ceremony and an eco-friendly Ganesha idol.

There are specific instructions for immersion, such as the idol can only be submerged at a location designated by the district administration.

The ceremonies and celebrations must end by 9 pm, and the organisers must be vaccinated.

Approval from the district administration or the BBMP is required in order to install the Ganesha idol.

Bommai also sought a detailed report from the police department and from the district collectorate.

Celebration in areas sharing border with Kerala have been prohibited.

Karnataka on Saturday September 4 reported less than 1,000 new Covid cases with 983 infections and logged 21 deaths, taking the total caseload to 29,54,047 and the toll to 37,401.
