Bengaluru: On the night of Thursday September 24, Congress leaders held two important meetings in two luxury hotels in the City to counter the BJP and JD (S). Both these meetings were held on a caste basis.
According to the sources, the first meeting was of Vokkaliga leaders which were led by the party Vokkaliga leaders including Krishna Bairegowda, Cheluvanarayana Swamy, and so on. In the meeting, it was decided to start the party campaign in Vokkaliga belt especially in Mandya and Mysuru to decimate the JD (S).
Party also decided to ensure that the community will rally behind Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President D. K. Shivakumar to ensure the highest number of MLAs from this region.
The second meeting which was held simultaneously in another hotel was attended by Lingayat leaders of the party. Basavana Gowda Badarli, Anil Kumar, and other party leaders had participated in the meeting. In the meeting, it was decided to use the humiliation to B. S. Yediyurappa by BJP to gain sympathy votes among the Lingayat community.
According to the sources both the meetings were organised on the behest of the KPCC President D. K. Shivakumar who is eyeing the CM post after 2023 election.
