Bengaluru: K. N. Yashavantha Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the Criminal Investigation Department’s cybercrime cell, has been awarded ‘Cyber Cop of the Year 2021.’
The officer was recognised for conducting a thorough investigation that resulted in the arrest of a man who was downloading and selling child pornography.
According to sources, Kumar was reportedly one of 55 candidates nominated for the prestigious award from throughout the country. DSP Y. Kumar rose to the top and received the award on Thursday December 16 for his cyber skills during the probe.
The award was given to the police officer by the Data Security Council of India in New Delhi.
CID officials claimed it was a case in 2020 when a student from Karnataka was held under Section 67B of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Approximately 70 clips of child pornography were recovered from the accused during the investigation. The investigation also found that the accused sold more than 50 child pornography clips to 30 foreign nationals over the course of 68 months.
