Bengaluru: The Karnataka state government has decided to give an additional holiday on the fourth Saturday of every month to all government employees from next year onwards.

While the employees will continue getting leaves on major holidays, their casual leaves will be reduced from 15 to 10. Besides this, all the birth anniversaries of saints and leaders celebrated in the state- Basava Jayanti, Kanaka Jayanti, Valmiki Jayanti and Mahavir Jayanti will be holidays for government employees.

The employees had earlier proposed an idea of five-day work in a week, but this plan was scrapped as the government felt that this policy will give too many holidays to employees and hence new fourth Saturday holiday policy will be incorporated.

Many government employees and organisations are happy with the new plan of the government. Karnataka State Government Employees’ Union president HK Ramu told Times of India that the organisation welcomes the decision.
