K’taka to create Scene of Crime officers post for speedy investigation: Bommai

Bengaluru: The State is all set to create ‘Scene of Crime’ officer posts to facilitate scientific collection of sensitive evidence from crime scenes. This will ensure faster investigation of crimes, said Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday July 12.

Speaking to media persons, Bommai said that the Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa will sign the official government order for creation of the posts and the first copy will be presented to Director General of Police Praveen Sood on Tuesday July 13. The first phase will have 206 officers appointed, he added.

Bommai informed, “Until now the regional officers were entrusted with such investigation, but with creation of this post from now on a well trained team of officers will visit the place and undertake investigation procedures at the crime scene more scientifically.” This will help solve the crime cases sooner and also reduce the number of crimes significantly in the days to come, the Minister added.

Bommai informed that the CM will release a booklet providing all details about the Arogya Bhagya scheme for policemen and launch the Vidyanidhi 2 scheme to provide quality education to the children of policemen.
Speaking on the Mekedatu Project, Bommai asserted that the State also has rights to implement the project to safeguard the interest of farmers and its people. We are following the ‘Cauvery Tribunal Order’ and everything is in place. We are keen to go ahead with the project, he added and exuded confidence that the Government of India will provide justice to the State by honouring State’s plea.
In response to question on implementation of Population Control Bill, Minister said that the decision cannot be hurried and can be made only after due discussion and deliberation.
