Bengaluru: Over five lakh students of government and aided schools missed their midday meal here on Tuesday owing to the lack of co-ordination over the declaration of holiday following the demise of former president APJ Abdul Kalam.
The NGOs that supply mid-day meals said that there was no clarity from the Department of Public Instruction on whether there was a holiday till late at night when the preparation of next day’s meal begins.
And hence when government did not declare Tuesday as a holiday for schools and the students attended the classes, they did not receive mid-day meals.
School authorities closed the schools in the afternoon and sent the children home when they came to know that lunch would not me made available that afternoon.
