Bengaluru: Members of all political parties in the Legislative Council have appreciated the Central Government for filing an affidavit in the Supreme Court on the issue of constituting Cauvery Management Board.

Speaking in the Legislative Council, Minister for Home Dr G Parameshwara thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Central Government filing an affidavit stating that constitution of Cauvery Management Board would not be possible. Parameshwara also thanked former prime minister H D Deve Gowda for observing hunger strike demanding for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in the Cauvery dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. “I have to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Central Government filing an affidavit in the Supreme Court. On September 30, Attorney General had agreed to Supreme Court’s direction to constitute Cauvery Management Board. Today, the Attorney General had filed an affidavit stating that formation of Cauvery Management Board will not be possible as per Supreme Court’s direction. I have to thank former prime minister H D Deve Gowda for pressurizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi against formation of Cauvery Management Board,’’ Parameshwara said.

Participating in the discussion, K S Eshwarappa, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, has demanded the state government to change its counsel Fali S Nariman immediately. “It is our money with which reservoirs are constructed. The state has spent Rs 76 crore on its counsels till now. The Supreme Court’s verdict is always contrary to the interests of Kannadigas. How long do we struggle and keep fighting for our rights?’’ asked Eshwarappa.
