Bengaluru: A motor vehicle inspector with Electronic City RTO has been booked by Lokayukta police for alegedly taking bribe of Rs 20000 from a Kerla based driver.
B. Tippeswamy, motor vehicle inspector with Electronic City RTO, on October 13 found that Vijimon the driver of a Kerala registered vehicle had not paid inter-State vehicle tax. Rules mandate that the inspector had to either seize the vehicle or give a receipt after collecting the tax in full.
When Vijimon told inspector that he did not have enough money to pay the tax in full, he took Rs. 20,000 but did not issue a receipt, which amounted to a bribe.
Meanwhile Vijimon filed a complaint at Lokayukta police and following the complaint police raided the Electronic City RTO and the house of B. Tippeswamy.
On recovering crucial documents, they registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
