Ramanagar: Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy has said that the fight against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is like a ‘second freedom struggle’.

Addressing the anti-CAA protesters on Tuesday, December 24, he lashed out at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government and said, “The BJP government at the Centre is trying to showcase its power and arrogance by implementing the CAA. The fight against this will be like the second freedom struggle. PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are dividing this country and are indulging in unconstitutional practices. Hinduism is not the religion of this country. The Indian Constitution is the actual religion of India.”

Slamming the Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa-led state BJP government, HDK said, “The state government is ready to implement the Act in January. But before doing that, what about the people who have died in the police firing? Do you have a sense of humanity? Do you like playing with the lives of innocent people? During the time of the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) state coalition government, there was not even a single instance of violence. This time, the police are to be held responsible for the violence. They have taken two innocent lives on the orders of the BJP leaders.”
