Bengaluru: Slaughterhouses and meat shops across the City will be shut on Tuesday March 1 as the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has ordered a complete ban on meat sale on account of Maha Shivratri.

According to sources, BBMP’s Animal Husbandry division issued an order to this effect on February 22.

According to BBMP data, Bengaluru has almost 3,000 licenced meat shops and three authorised slaughterhouses, but the actual number of meat shops is believed to be far higher as many operate illegally.
