Bengaluru: The Malavalli police have arrested two persons for a robbery that took place outside an ATM near Jalahalli in Bengaluru.
The police have identified the accused as Nithin Kumar and Rakesh. The police inquiry revealed that one of the ‘victims’ was involved in the robbery.
The culprits, who were on the run with the stolen cash, were arrested after members of the public alerted the police on seeing the duo involved in a drunken brawl. They tried to flee when the police arrived at the spot, but were caught after a chase with a bag containing Rs. 15.2 lakh cash.
According to the police, during the detailed interrogation that followed, the duo confessed that they were on the run after taking part in an armed robbery at an ATM in Jalahalli Cross. They also admitted that Sagar, one of the cash custodians who was stabbed and believed to be a victim in the robbery, was in fact part of the crime.
On Monday, Nitin and Rakesh intercepted Sagar and his colleagues Mohan and Prasanna outside the ATM kisok at Jalahalli Cross. They attacked Mohan with a knife and escaped with the cash bag containing Rs. 18.5 lakh which the trio had gone to deposit.
Sagar, who is receiving treatment at a hospital for stab injuries at present, is said to have given details of the job to Nitin and Rakesh.
