Bengaluru: A man acquitted by a trial court in 2011 for offences including abetment to suicide has been sent to jail by the High Court. The Court has sentenced him to seven years of imprisonment.

Shanthasetty is the man acquitted. He was acquitted by a Fast Track Court in Kollegala in 2011. His quarrel with a woman in the village had led her to lodge a complaint to the above effect on June 12, 2008.

The High Court on May 5, 2022 found that the lower court’s judgment of acquittal was based on a hyper-technical essentiality of a doctor’s certificate for the fit condition of the victim to give a dying declaration.
