Bengaluru: Minister for Revenue Kagodu Thimmappa said on Monday that many right to information (RTI) activists have become blackmail activists.

Title deeds for 50,000 farmers by Dec 2016: Kagodu Thimmappa-1Reacting on the alleged involvement of Excise Minister H Y Meti in a sex scandal, Minister Kagodu Thimmappa has said that whole episode looked like an attempt to blackmail the minister. “Nowadays, this type of episodes have become common. Many RTI activists have been busy in this type activities. These so-called RTI activists have been misusing the RTI Act. The menace of RTI activists has become a nuisance at taluk offices,’’ Minister Thimmappa said.

The minister opined that one needs not give much credence to such allegations against Minister Meti. He also said that RTI activist should release the CD if he had it but he should not indulge in blackmail tactics. “We cannot expect Minister Meti to involve in such activities. Politicians like me cannot adjust with the current politics. So it hurts me whenever some people indulge in blackmail politics. If the current trend of politics are any indication, it will be difficult for me to contest in the next Assembly elections. My target is to ensure title deeds to the people living in forest areas. My life will be complete if I achieve this target,’’ the minister said.

On Special Land Acquisition Officer Bheema Nayak case, the minister said the police have arrested Bheema Nayak and the inquiry is on into his corrupt activities. “Action will be taken against Bheema Nayak after receiving the report from the officials concerned,” the minister said.

He said the state government would submit a revised report to the Centre in January or February on the crop loss due to the drought conditions in the state. “The Cabinet sub-committees, formed to study and assess the implementation of relief measures in drought-hit taluks, are expected to submit the reports by this month end. After assessing the crop loss in kharif as well as rabi season, a final report will be submitted to the Central Government. We have already submitted a report to the Centre on the crop loss in kharif season. We are expecting the Centre to release the funds shortly. The Centre had released Rs 1,600 crore under National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) last year. We are yet to receive funds from the Centre this year,” he said.

The minister said that around 4 lakh applications of bagar hokum cultivation were pending in the state. “There is no positive response from the officials concerned in this regard. Legislators are also not cooperating with the officials. The legislators are not evincing interest to clear the pending applications for bagar hokum cultivation. We are contemplating a disciplinary action against those revenue officials who delay clearing pending bagar hokum cultivation applications,” the minister said.

He said the revenue department has taken measures to recruit 1600 surveyors.
