Bengaluru: Mayor G Padmavathi is known for paying surprise visits to various BBMP offices and organising meetings with BMBP officials. Mayor Padmavathi was shocked to see the small number of vehicles parked on the BMBP Head Office premises on Tuesday.
The BBMP’s forest department had engaged the contractors to provide vehicles and tree cutting teams. These tree cutters play key role clearing roads of fallen trees during monsoon and remove old and decaying trees in summer. As per the agreement, the contractors have to use 21 vehicles with nine tree cutters for each vehicle. However, only 15 vehicles were parked on the BBMP premises during the inspection. Instead of nine tree cutters for each vehicle, only four were present on the occasion. “Some of the drivers of these vehicles have no valid driving licence. Nine tree cutters should be in each team but only four were present. The BBMP has been paying Rs 3 lakh per month to these contractors. I will take a suitable action against the contractors after discussing with BBMP Commissioner,’’ Mayor Padmavathi said.
It may be recalled that BBMP had cleared bills of contractors totaling Rs 3.70 crore on June 10, 2015. The contractors had staged a protest demanding the BBMP to clear the dues pending from November 2013 to 2014.
