Bengaluru: Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) vice-chairman Govindaraju was recorded on camera by reporters as he ranted at them to “come when we call you and write what we tell you to write”.
The incident took place when media persons were visiting the BMTC’s chairman, Nagaraj Yadav, at his office, for a reaction to a TV channel’s recent report. A traffic inspector taking bribe from bus conductors was caught on a camera by the channel.
Even as Yadav was giving his reaction to the TV channels, the BMTC’s vice-chairman Govindaraju entered the room and began his tirade at the reporters. “We are appointed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. This is our organisation and we do whatever we want. Who called you here,” he said.
The reporters recorded as Govindaraju yelled and the chairman was even seen advising him against such a behaviour.
However, the vice chairman was not in a mood to stop as he continued to argue that BMTC was “his” organisation. When the media persons pointed out that he had no authority to stop the media from reporting the facts, Govindaraju said he can do whatever he wants at “his” organisation.
The report of bribery came days after the corporation’s employees alleged that BMTC has not been depositing crores of rupees, deducted from their salaries, towards their life insurance, which may result in lapse of the policies.
