Bengaluru: Metro rail will increase the frequency and add extra bogies during peak hours to ease congestion at metro stations and to make travel comfortable for elderly, physically-challenged, women and children, announced Minister for Bengaluru Development K J George during the assembly session.

Earlier, metro used to operate trains every 6 minutes during peak hours and that has been reduced to 4 minutes, he said and added a decision to reduce it to 3 minutes would be taken after consultation.

Steps have been taken to add extra bogies to the existing number by next December. Payments have been made to manufacture 150 extra bogies, minister said.

There are reports of abuse against Kannadigas in metro and those cases will be dealt with seriously without giving room for recurrence, he said.

Minister George made the statements while responding to fellow Congress member MLC Veena Achaiah’s queries in the upper house on November 23.
