Bengaluru: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited the Kalena Agrahara lake in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) Bommanahalli zone on Sunday May 15.
In addition to State Government grants, the 7.3-acre lake was restored at a cost of Rs. 3 Crore under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) scheme.
Following her visit to the lake in 2017, the Union Minister directed officials to begin development work. A Sewage Treatment Facility (STP) with a capacity of 0.15 MLD was also built for Rs. 75 lakh. To maintain the lake’s ecology, the civic authority desilted it and built a sewage diversion drain. There is also a walkway and benches for visitors.
