Bengaluru: MLA and Chief Minister’s Political Secretary M. P. Renukacharya, violated the government’s Covid guidelines at a bull taming race held in the Taluk on Monday January 10.
After receiving backlash from many sections of society, he has publicly apologised for his involvement.
The MLA inaugurated the bull taming contest, which drew hundreds of people. Face masks were not worn by the majority of spectators. Many of his supporters carried him on their shoulders and garlanded him, and many took selfies with him, breaking the norms.
Renukacharya claimed he entered the contest because the Honnali Assembly constituency’s youth asked him to. “I apologise to the people of the State and the Governor for breaking guidelines. My participation has made me feel embarrassed.”
He also claimed to have performed good deeds during Covid – 19’s first and second waves. He vowed that he would take steps to postpone various events in his constituency, including a ram fight.
However, Superintendent of Police C. B. Rishyanth said that the event’s organisers and participants will have to face charges.
