Bengaluru: The Cubbon Park police are yet to submit a report to the court about the Rs 1.97 crore seized from advocate H M Siddharath at the Vidhana Soudha gates.
A senior police officer said that the officials were preparing the report based on Siddarth’s statements. “If we receive any objections from Income Tax Department officials or points raised by the court on the money seized, we will investigate further. Once Siddarth produces the relevant documents to the officers concerned, we will process the charges as we have filed a case against him,’’ he said.
The officer also stated that Siddharth gave contradictory statements regarding the cash. “He was summoned to appear before a senior police officer who asked him to provide documents related to the cash. On Saturday, he came to the station and we recorded his statement and took the documents given by him,” he added.
Siddharth claimed that he was carrying the cash for property registration and had borrowed loans from private financiers in the city. Siddartha had represented former chief minister and BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa in some cases before the High Court.
Police found the cash in a Volkswagen car driven Siddharth near the west gate of Vidhana Soudha during their routine search operations on October 21.
