Bengaluru: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) received the prestigious Special Award for Innovation from the Centre for High Technology, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. The award ceremony, part of the 27th Energy Technology Meet in Bengaluru, saw attendance from top government officials and leaders from India’s energy sector.
The award was presented by Shri Hardeep S. Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, to MRPL’s team, led by Managing Director Shri Mundkur Shyamprasad Kamath. He was joined by senior officers including Dr. V. Nandakumar, Executive Director of Projects; Shri BHV Prasad, Executive Director of Refinery; Shri B. Sudarshan; and representatives from MRPL’s Innovation Center.
Recognising MRPL’s Innovation in AI and Process Efficiency
This accolade was awarded in recognition of MRPL’s pioneering work in “First-Principles and Artificial Intelligence Hybrid Applications for Process Efficiency and Reliability Improvement.” MRPL’s approach, blending foundational engineering principles with advanced AI, reflects its ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency and reliability in refining processes. This is the third consecutive year that MRPL’s innovative efforts have been acknowledged by the Centre for High Technology.

In his address, MRPL MD Shri Mundkur Shyamprasad Kamath highlighted the significance of this award as a testament to the company’s commitment to addressing complex industry challenges with innovative solutions. “This is a proud moment for Team MRPL to receive the Innovation Award under the special category for the third consecutive year at the Energy Technology Meet. This achievement reflects MRPL’s commitment to developing innovative solutions to real-world challenges. The credit goes to our entire team, especially our Innovation Hub, for fostering a culture where every challenge is met with a ‘why not solve it’ approach,” he said.
With this award, MRPL cements its standing as a leader in energy sector innovation, driven by a culture that encourages curiosity, technical advancement, and practical problem-solving.
