Bengaluru: Newly elected BBMP deputy mayor Rameela Umashankar (44) is no more. She breathed her last on the night of Thursday, October 4 following a cardiac attack.
Rameela, who was representing Cauverypura ward complained of chest pain late in the evening. Immediately she was rushed to a private hospital where she was announced brought dead.
Earlier in the day, she attended a slew of events including CM’s city programmes and also Namma Metro flagging off event on Thursday.
The final rites of Rameela will be held on Friday evening.
Condoling the death, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said he was deeply saddened by her death.
“She was a dedicated social worker and committed party worker. It’s shocking to learn that she is no more with us. My heartfelt condolences to her family. May her soul rest in peace. Pray the Almighty gives courage and strength to the family to bear this loss,” Chief Minister said in a press statement.
Rameela from JDS was elected as the BBMP deputy mayor on September 28.
