Bengaluru: Former Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy has said that schools and colleges need to be closed for the next 20 days, owing to the increasing number of Covid cases in the State.
The JD (S) leader termed the night curfew as a confusing move that caused difficulty and trouble for the common man.
Speaking to mediapersons he said that that while some BJP leaders support the curfew, others opposed it. “Now, whose words should the people listen to?” he questioned.
Businessmen, hoteliers, and other small traders were completely opposed to the curfew, which would severely harm their livelihood, Kumaraswamy alleged.
Even with a night curfew in place, many people and vehicles continue to run as if there is no curfew at all, worsening the situation.
“The bigger question is whether the government can completely control the case count due to the imposition of a night curfew. I am not sure what knowledge the experts had when they urged for a night curfew,” he added.
He further asked how effective the weekend lockdown is, needs to be examined.
Farmers and agriculturalists who harvest crops and bring them to market are affected by the night curfew. He also said that the government must assist farmers by releasing a reasonable package to compensate for their losses.
