Earlier report

Bengaluru: BBMP, city civic body controlled by Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) has banned sale of meat within its limits on the day of Ganesha Chaturthi on September 17.

BBMP in a release said that the Joint Director (Animal Husbandry) has banned slaughtering of animals and sale of meat in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits on September 17, 2015 on account of Ganesha Chaturthi.

“It is a routine thing practiced on account of festivities”, BBMP Commissioner G Kumar Naik told sources.

The decision by BBMP in Congress-ruled Karnataka comes amidst the raging row over meat ban in several BJP-ruled states, including neighbouring Maharashtra.
